Trophies, wild joy after victories and tears after failures - the season of Juventus Turyn in 2016/2017 was filled with different kind of emotions. However, since it belongs to the past, it should be summarized.
The Old Lady won the Scudetto for the 6th time in a row
The 2016/2017 season started on August 20, 2016 with the victory of the ACF Fiorentina 2-1 win. The small number of goals scored against the rivals and one lost goal caused that Juve finished the first round on the 6th in the Serie A table. However, the next match gave a promotion to the second place. This was due to a win against Lazio Rome 1-0. These 3 points were very valuable for them, as they were scored during away match. The match against US Sassuolo also didn’t bring any surprises as it ended with winning 3: 1.
However, many fans began to notice that the style of the Old Lady is far from their expectations. And, the confirmation of this was the 4th place and lost of an away match because of poor game of Inter Milan – 2:1. The consequence of this defeat was a drop to the third place in the table.
The next four rounds were the victories of Bianconeri. However, it cannot be hidden that Udinese Calcio, Empoli FC, US Palermo, or Cagliari Calcio, were not too demanding rivals. That is why a win was simply a duty. However, thanks to these matches, Juve was at the top of the table from which they didn’t fall until the 38th round.
Another big rival was AC Milan in the 9th round. However, the Old Lady's players had to once again recognize the superiority of another Milan club in this season. AC Milan scored the decisive goal and won with Juve.
One of the most important matches for the Scudetto was the match against the Napoli SSC in the 11th round and a win 2: 1 gave a lot of confidence to Old Lady players. The next rounds were just a confirmation of which club is currently the strongest in Serie A. A winning streak didn’t stop even AS Roma, i.e. then the leader of Serie A.
A big surprise was the defeat of ACF Fiorentina 1: 2 in the 20th round. The wasted 3 points didn’t cause a fall from the first place from the table. However, it doesn’t change the fact that they came close AS Roma and SSC Napoli to the Old Lady, because they won their matches in the 20th round.
During the next 6 rounds, Juve have already drawn conclusions from their failure and they didn’t even give the rivals the possibility to think about the victory. Later, in the 27th round they gave hope to the opponents for a moment, because they drew with the average player Udinese Calcio. The next match was the revenge on AC Milan for defeat in the autumn round. And, Black and White won 2:1.
After the victory over Genoa's Sampdoria (1: 0), the time has come for revenge against SSC Napoli. But this time Maurizio Sarri's players didn’t fail and drew on their own stadium.
After another series of victories Juve had to take a deeper breath. Proof of it was two draws in a row and one lost – the first with Atalanta Bergamo (2: 2) and later in the Turin Derby - 1: 1. And, the White and Black lost the next points lost in the match with AS Roma, where they lost 1: 3.
The last two rounds were only a formality. Juve won first with FC Crotone 3:1 and then with Bologna FC 1: 2. Then, Scudettom which was 6th in a row became a reality, and the rivals again had to wait with patience.
Juve and the biggest rivals – i.e. what happened at the back of the table in the 2016/2017 season
Throughout the season, Juve scored 91 points, all thanks to 29 won matches, 4 draws and 5 defeats. At the same time they gained 4 points. More than Serie A, AS Roma, who won 28 times, drew 3 times and lost their matches 7 times. In turn, Napoli SSC won 5 points less. They won their matches 26 times, lost 4 times, but drew up 8 times. The next places in the table was already a big gap with the Champions of Italy - Atalanta BC lost 19 points, SS Lazio Rome lost 21 points and AC Milan lost 28 points. e.t.c.
Coppa Italia from the perspective of Juventus Turin
The Italian Cup in the 2016/2017 season for the third time in a row went to Old Lady. Juve played the first match in the 1/8 Coppa Italia on January 11, 2017 with Atalanta Bergamo. After a fierce match, Juve won 3-2. In the quarter final they played with AC Milan, with whom they won thanks to the scored goals by Pjanić and Dybala (2: 1). In the half final the expectations were set even higher, as the Turin club played with their eternal rivals, the Napoli SSC. In the first two matches they won 3: 1 without problems and they had a chance to participate in the final. However, the second game kept in suspense until the last minute and ended in a 3-2 win for Juve.
The great final of Coppa Italia was held on May 17, 2017 and Juventus played with SS Lazio. The club from Rome was predictably too weak for Turin's power, so the match ended with the victory 2-0.
